James McTEER was born 1697 in Northern Ireland and died in 1785 in Cumberland Co., PA. We are descended from his last wife, Mary SHARON. In 1746/47, James took out a tract of land in East Pennsboro Twp., Lancaster Co., PA. James had five children by his wife, Margaret ANDERSON, and three by his wife, Mary Sharon. One of whom was Samuel McTeer born in 1752 in Cumberland Co. PA. Samuel married Rosanna QUIGLEY

Samuel McTeer died in 1800 and Wife, Rosanna was left 1/3 of the estate. Shortly after the date of the final settlement of the estate in 1806, Rosanna Mateer and her children moved to Armstrong Co., PA. She probably traveled there with some of her Quigley relatives.

Samuel and Rosanna had seven children: James b. 1780 in Cumberland Co. PA; John b. 1782 who married Margaret MONTGOMERY; Samuel b. 1788 probably in Cumberland Co.; Margaret b. 1790 in Cumberland Co. and married John "Walter" SLOAN; Jane b. 1792 in Cumberland Co. who married Robert COLGIN and 2nd Philip BRUMBAUGH; Sharon b. 1797; Elsie who married William Lee PEART and 2nd Alexander LOWERY.

We are descended from Sharon Mateer, son of Samuel and Rosanna. Sharon was given his frist name from his grandmother, Mary SHARON. In 1824, Sharon married Jane REED, daughter of David and Mary Reed. Sharon and Jane had ten children, five sons and five daughters.

Their children were: Margaret b. 1825; Mary Reed b. 1828; Samuel Quigley b. 1830; David Reed b. 1832; Rosanna Jane b. 1835; James Sharon b. 1837; William Ewing b. 1840; Eliza b. 1842; John Wiley b. 1845 and Martha b. 1848. My husband is descended from William Ewing Mateer.

Most of the family lived in the surrounding area with the exception of David Reed Mateer who went to Victoria, Australia and in 1860 married Mary DEVINEY. They had six children in Australia.

William Ewing Mateer married Sarah Jane HELM, daughter of Jacob HELM and Elizabeth FAIR. William and Sarah Jane had ten children. William and Sarah lived in the Mosgrove, Armstrong Co. PA. area.
