Save the Monarch Butterfly

Hugh WILLIAMSON was born ca. 1818 in Donegal, Ireland. He left Ireland from the Port of Londonderry. He set sail on the ship "Provinalist" under Capt. McNeilson and arrived at Philadelphia, PA on 15 July 1840. His occupation was listed as being a laborer.

By 1850, Hugh is in Armstrong County PA. He married Annie WILKINSON ca 1855/57. Annie was born in 1833 in Ireland and lived in Philadelphia. She had sister Margaret born in Ireland in 1805. Margaret was living with Hugh and Annie in 1880. Annie possibly had a brother named John WILKINSON and other family members named Tillie and Lisa. John WILKINSON and family enjoyed visiting the WILLIAMSON homestead in Armstrong Co. They liked to climb the hill behind the farm buildings and watch the sunsets. They were from the smokey inner city of Philadelphia and had never been able to see such beautiful clear skies and sunsets.

Annie and Hugh had six children: Margaret born 1857/58, Mark born 1860, Hannah Rebecca born 1862, John A. born 1864, William Hugh born 1868, and Eliza Jane (Jennie) born 1874. Eliza is my grandmother

Eliza Jane known by Jennie married John Vernon LEINWEBER.

At the age of 41, Hugh was mustered into the Union Army on 16 October 1862 and mustered out 23 July 1863, as shown on the Muster Out Roll in Harrisburg, PA. He served as a Private in the Departmental Corps, PA Volunteers, under Captain John B. GUTHRIE (Guthrie's Unattached Co., PA. Drafted Mil. Inf.)

Annie died in 1884 and is laid to rest in the Concord Presbyterian Cemetery in Wayne Twp., Armstrong Co. PA. On 10 February 1896, Hugh WILLIAMSON died after being sick one week with "la grippe". He is buried beside his wife and son at Concord Cemetery.
